Lady Liberty Quilt Blocks

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I think my colour choices have been really nice so far. I'm glad I figured out the process - using my machine, embroidery software, placement techniques, etc. I could make the blocks all day long! I have a limited amount of fabric to work with and mostly only fat quarters but I was able to eke out all the blocks I needed so I'm pretty proud of my resourcefulness! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Once you get the rhythm down of the process it flies along and you don't even notice the time. Lining up the continuous applique is the trickiest part for me - just take your time.

What you will need

  • Batiks
  • polyester embroidery thread
  • Eileen Roche's amazing book 'Machine Embroidered Quilting and Applique'

CarlottaS asked:
Wow! I hope I can do that! I have a machine, bought the class. Guess I need to watch the video and get the book?
a1angiem answered:
Hmm, I replied to this comment and it isn't showing up. Yes, I ws going to say to watch the class and do the project - it is so much fun! I wanted to continue and do more so I bought the book and it's a great extension! I've made pin cushions and these quilt blocks and plan to work my way through all the projects in the awesome book! Thanks!
Eileen Roche asked:
Spectacular, Angie! Thanks for sharing!
a1angiem answered:
Thank YOU! I have ONE more question: as I understand, we should be able to fit 4 border designs on the one quilt sandwich. Do I need to move the design in the 'edit' mode to the far left (or right) of the grid before stitching so that it is not centred in the hoop? Thanks again!
QuiltDude asked:
Very, very, very nice, Angie. I love the contrasting thread and all the bright, lively fabric colors. Batiks are awesome. Please post pictures of the finished quilt. You are quickly becoming an embroidered quilt expert!
a1angiem answered:
Thanks, QuiltDude! It's been a son-of-a-gun to put together but looking really pretty all assembled! I still have some borders to do. It may seem like cheating, but it's just another tool in the box, right? A fun craft, a change of pace, and a new way to use my embroidery machine. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I agree that it looks pretty with the Batiks. It was fun choosing the thread colours!
