Kaleidoscope Stack-n-Whack Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? 1. The fabric worked out so well and 2. Each block is very precise although I didn't know how the block would turn out until it was completed. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Pin each stack very precisely so that all eight layers line up exactly. One or two pins in a stack will not do it. The centers will be much better if each triangle is exactly the same, use lots of pins to line up the stack of 8 layers. When I skimped on the precise pinning, the blocks were still OK, but not as good as they should be. My first quilt went very well because I followed directions exactly. The one I am working on now isn't quite as precise because I didn't take the time to do enough precise pinning.

mcgahanm answered:
Thank you. I have another top of "stack n whack" kaleidoscope completed and ready to quilt and then all the fabric for a third one. I'll post pictures when they are finished.

When I first learned this technique, we used pins first and followed up with thread tacking. It kept the layers from shifting and the registration points were exact. It was worth the work. We were layering 12 pieces. It really helps when cutting is delayed.
mcgahanm answered:
Thanks for the suggestion. I will do some thread tacking on my next one. Twelve layers would really be a challenge!
