Kaffe Fassett BQ3

Project Description

What are you most proud of? That I did this on my DSM. In the long black pieces, I quilted feathers with a different interior motif for each big block. What advice would you give someone starting this project? I used my new circle templates to mark the design on the small squares. The nested circles templates are available from I also used the circle templates to make a paper template, needle pierced it and used Pounce powder to mark the large squares. I did a very simple medallion in the blue areas & used Kimmy's star in the centers. It actually took longer to quilt than to piece!! LOL!

What you will need

  • Kaffe Fassett prints
  • Kona solids
  • Aurifil
  • Isacord
  • and Bottomline threads

Q&A with Darns

K Lee 2Strings asked:
Very pretty! I love that wonky zig-zag tying everything together, and you definitely can't go wrong with these fabrics.
Darns answered:
Kaffe Fassett always seems to be right!
K Lee 2Strings asked:
I just now found the quilting! Wow! Well worth all the extra time it took.
Darns answered:
Thanks, 2strings! I wanted to keep the quilting simple in the big squares so the large KF prints would still be visible.
grammamaggie asked:
Wow! Love your quilting! Is the pattern for the piecing one you purchased? Your fabric choices are great. Well done!!
Darns answered:
Thank you! Yes, the piecing was done using the BQ3 pattern.
HeatherIsaacson asked:
This is an awsome quilt
Darns answered:
Thank you so much, Heather!
4bird2 asked:
Darns, you've done it again. This has a modern flair that I love. And the quilting is amazing. ( I guess I'd better take that class with templates.) p.s. I like your little dog in the picture too.
Darns answered:
Thanks! The template class is interesting and somewhat of a challenge to do on a domestic machine. Didn't know Wallace was in the pic! LOL!
