Jelly Roll Race Quilt

Project Description

What was your inspiration? I'd done one Jelly Roll Race which I used as a quilt back. I had this set of strips that I didn't think I'd use for anything else so I quickly stitched the strips together with a small strip of the backing fabric interspersed at the joins. The quilt turned out as expected - ~ 54" wide - too wide for a lap quilt so I cut off 9 inches from the width and used that strip on the back. I stitched in the ditch every third strip; then quilted in the hoop (360 X 200).

What you will need

  • A set of 40 Rainbow Strips - batik; batik back

Q&A with jmn111

Avid Reader asked:
Good usage of fabric. - using a strip for the back is an idea I will remember. Thanks
jmn111 answered:
I didn't make a separate strip - I just cut off ~ 9" from one side of the jellyroll race panel. The final width of the quilt is 45" - good size for a lap quilt.
