What are you most proud of? It took me a long time to decide how to quilt the long, narrow pieces of this quilt. First, I ditched all the seams. Then I added some diagonals that followed the hypotenuses of the triangles. I almost stopped there. Then I saw the lovely southwestern designs on Ann Petersen's website. Once I decided to fill the center of my quilt with a design I adapted from one of hers, the rest of it fell into place. The center design began to look like a sun with a "god's eye" in the middle, so the radiating flames came from that. I used all kinds of devices to make the various circles, including pie plates, a string with a screw driver on one end and holding a marker on the other, and the edge of my walking foot. I'm very glad I stuck with it: the heavy quilting is just what it needed. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't be in too much of a hurry to decide what to quilt. Let your project sit for a while as your ideas begin to form.
