Hop Into Spring

Project Description

What are you most proud of? The rabbit looked so real when I finished. My granddaughter was so excited when she saw it on my design wall that she started telling her baby doll about it-pointing out the different elements on the quilt. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't be afraid to try thread painting. It is simply a zig-zag stitch done free-motion style. Practicing on sample fabric is a good idea. I also did not paper- piece a basket in every block of the background. I decided to do every other one. I quilted a basket design in the ones that I didn't paper-piece.

What you will need

Q&A with LindaDenise

Dora Goforth asked:
Please explain thread painting more clearly for us , do you get a fabric shape [say a flower]then pin or fuse it to your block ,then start with the color of thread you want flower to be n just zigzag sewiong it on your machine to fill in its space on the block? I'm so very new to quilting but this souned so interesting.. thanks for helping in the understanding of your technique.
LindaDenise answered:
That is exactly what I did! Practice first on scrap sandwiched pieces and try different stitches. See which ones look good to you. You can layer light thread over dark thread or use 2 different colors of thread at the same time. Sometimes I use a straight stitch to fill in small areas.
