Henrietta's Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? That my daughter and Henrietta both love it! What advice would you give someone starting this project? When quilting this I had some difficulty keeping my border straight - I stitched in the ditch on each side of each strip and did one strip one way and the next the other way - which has made my borders a bit wonky. Not sure how to avoid this other than doing all the stitching the same way. If anyone has any advice regarding this I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks

What you will need

  • Scrap material from my stash and thread

Q&A with VicMansfield

Sancraft asked:
Nice! The striped binding fabric is just right!
VicMansfield answered:
Thanks - as soon as I found the binding material in my stash, I knew that was it!
fluffyjumper asked:
Your quilt (or should I say Henrietta's quilt!) is just lovely - you are very clever. The colours are brilliant. very inspirational.
VicMansfield answered:
thank you, I love bright colours!
addyson asked:
I was just watching the latest course on quilting on a big machine, and she said that she stitched in the ditch around the borders first to make sure they stayed straight, I have just myself switched over to a walking foot for SITD and it guides the top fabric through so that it doesnt pucker up .. normally when piecing its a good idea to sew in opposite directions, but since your lines are on the bias I don't think either way would make a difference, but the walking foot would I think
VicMansfield answered:
Thanks, I did use a walking foot, but I guess being on the bias they did stretch and some of the material I have been playing with isn't 100% cotton quilting material, I have used several different weights and types of material, so that would probably have affected it too. Thanks for the advice! :)
