Hearts and Flowers

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I was most proud that the finished product exceeded my initial vision of this quilt. The border was not planned in the original design, and I was surprised that I was able to allow the quilt itself to tell me what the border should be. I am usually very structured, which can sometimes inhibit my creative processes. Perhaps because I allowed Anna-Claire to help with the quilt, I was more relaxed and her presence added a sense of play to the process. What advice would you give someone starting this project? RELAX and enjoy the process. Allow the fabrics to speak to you.

VicMansfield asked:
This quilt is beautiful - my neice recently asked me to make a rainbow quilt with hearts and stars on it and I wasn't sure what to do, now I have a better idea thanks to you!! Did you piece the hearts and flowers or applique them?? Thank you so much for sharing this quilt it is an inspiration to me!! I just hope my neice likes hers as much as your granddaughter seems to love hers!
mellowmimi answered:
Thank you!! The hearts, flowers and name are raw edge appliques, stitched with a machine blanket stitch, using variegated thread. I am sure your niece will be thrilled and I would love to see a photo of it when you are finished.
texan asked:
Love the colors. Noticed the pieced back, How did you ensure that the it did not get skewed or off kilter?
mellowmimi answered:
I can't take credit for that part of it. The long-arm quilter did a great job of centering it! I have a great working relationship with my quilter, and we discuss each project in detail when I drop it to her.
