Hawaiian Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? While I had many ideas on how to tackle this quilt, I simply needed to make a decision and go for it. Once I started, I never looked back and was happy with every step. I absolutely loved taking this course and being able to quilt it at home. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Just start and enjoy. Some weeks I sewed as little as 20 minutes, some weeks for hours. Since I am lucky enough to have a sewing room, this project was always out and easily accessible, so even 20 minutes of sewing meant getting a fair amount done.

What you will need

  • Recycled Hawaiian print shirts
  • board shorts
  • scrap fabric from other sewing projects

Q&A with ClayStef

llundby2747191 asked:
What pattern did you use?
ClayStef answered:
None, just had the idea of using 1" black cotton strips between the fabric pieces, and it worked. Like the stained glass feeling of the blocks. The 12 1/2" blocks are joined with 3" strips of the same black cotton, then bound with the black again. The quilting is in the ditch since there was so much color and pattern, I didn't feel the need for more embellishment. I've been using it for 4 years now, and it still looks new.
