Q&A with QuiltDude

QuiltDude asked:
I loved the colors of the charm pack, sold here on Craftsy, so I bought 2! This quilt takes just one of the packs, and uses all 100 squares in it. I decided to do a disappearing 9-patch, and I love the scrappy look. The colors are so happy, hence the name of the quilt, and then I thought it would be fun and silly to stitch happy faces all around... of course, there is always one [or two] not so happy faces in the crowd, can you spot them? LOL I'm going to play a game on FB - whoever catches the one mistake on this quilt, gets to keep it... let's see if they can spot it, can you? It's a piecing mistake, but I decided to leave it in, just because.
QuiltDude answered:
Thanks, KKM! The mistake was found right away on my FB "game". I'll have to devise less obvious boo-boos for my next quilt giveaway. ha haha
Meredith K asked:
Love the variegated thread happy faces!! & it is a happy & serene quilt!
QuiltDude answered:
Thanks Meredith. I actually have a crappy camera, and the pictures don't do the colors justice. It is really colorful and cheerful. I had LOTS of fun sewing the happy faces. I highly recommend the charm pack I used. It's 100, 5-inch squares, and I got the pack on sale for about $16 with shipping. I am waiting for my second pack to arrive. I want to do a simple Irish Chain - I think the colors will be much more prominent and striking.
mosie asked:
Lovely! Would also be a fun way to use up scraps from your stash.
QuiltDude answered:
You are so right, and I DO have enough of a scrap stash to do one, but the charm pack was too irresistible to not buy. :-) :-)
ChefChris asked:
I love your choice of fabrics and the free-motion quilting is great!
QuiltDude answered:
Thanks! I decided to just have fun with the FMQ. That charm pack is really colorful and nice to work with
Fran Laird asked:
I love this quilt do you have instructions for it you can share. I did another of your quilts using New Zealand fabrics thanks a lot
QuiltDude answered:
Hello, Fran. The pattern is called disappearing nine patch - you can find several tutorials on YouTube, as well as a lesson on Jenny Doan's class, Quilting Quickly I, here on Craftsy. It's all in the arrangement - just match up the small color blocks in the corners. This really was random, and a lot of fun.
