Fruit Salad Queen Quilt

Project Description

What was your inspiration? My college room mate Sandy visited this week, and we punished the sewing machines to start and finish a queen size quilt in 3 days. Sandy named the quilt Fruit Salad. Wished we'd filmed working on the quilt--so we could later laugh and review it on fast speed to the tune of the William Tell Overture (The Lone Ranger Theme Song). We made the quilt simple and simply fun! It is Sandy's first quilt ever, and I haven't made a quilt in 20 years. This is my first experience free motion quilting a Queen size quilt on a domestic sewing machine. The basting was done with safety pins. My 6' ft. worktable supported the weight of the quilt while I free motion quilted each quarter section. Recently I enjoyed Weeks Ringle's online craftsy class Modern Quilt Design. I watched the video many times--because it was so good, and so inspiring. Afterwards I bought two of Weeks and Bill's books, Transparency Quilts, and Quilts Made Modern. They are wonderful books, jammed packed full of information--Needless to say, I'll be making more quilts soon, and lots of experimenting too.
