harpistmom6 made Free Motion Quilting a Sampler with:
Q&A with harpistmom6
I've been considering fabrics for this quilt (after going to order from Craftsy only to read message along top that they no longer have the fabrics!) & 2 different groups jumped out at me-blues & yellow seems to be on developers & my mind- this is BEAUTIFUL! I was viewing videos & watched lots regarding 'Sew Kind of Wonderful' with very prominent quilting, similar to your 2nd row down, 2nd block from right-yellow & blue (center), left of mostly blue- it looks as though that circular quilting, echoed at even distance apart- that's what I liked about that type of process. Now that I'm looking at other blocks, you have done many with very prominent quilting which prompts me to ask what type batting, threads-all details that are pertinent since I want to follow your lead. I just signed on for the course so all awaits me- any tips will be appreciated. Beautiful job! I'm so pleased also to see a quilt done that's not 'sampler looking' as I'm just not in that mood right now.
Thank you for your kind words. I am new to quilting only just starting about a year and a half ago. I took Amy Gibson's course BOM 2012 and then Leah Day's to finish. The fabric line I used is called Summer Breeze by Sentimental Studios. I did not use any other fabrics. While this line is discontinued, I found plenty of fat quarters and yardage on ebay. I'm sure there are other sources on web. I followed Leah's quilting methods with the exception of top block, left and feathering on borders. I took her suggestion and used Isacord thread and it worked beautifully though most quilt shops will tell you only cotton. I figured she would know best! I used Kona snow for my background fabric and Quilter's Dream is the only batting I use. Not sure what loft, maybe Select or Deluxe? Hope this helps! :)
