Folded Feather

What are you most proud of? The whole-cloth thing really worked with the wool batting, I didn't lose the pouf. I'm also very pleased with the swirls-and-pearls background, it was a challenge and something I'd never done before. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Try wool batting and be careful with your marker choice.

Q&A with mckennalinn

Pat Sloan asked:
exciting! How big is this piece?
mckennalinn answered:
Hi, Pat, we know each other from my previous life as Nancy Restuccia :-) Hello again!
Thread Head asked:
The whole piece is amazing! The colour, the design, the pearls and swirls... Wow!
mckennalinn answered:
Thanks so much. I'm obviously very much indebted to Cindy and her quilt with the pearls-and-swirls background. Now that I've done it her way once, I expect I'll be able to make it my own next go-round.
Deb Cavanaugh asked:
Tremendous . I love the pieced background, the diamond quilted as background, your wonderful background fills and of course the gorgeous feather. Oh let's face it, I just love everything about it.
mckennalinn answered:
And your work isn't all that bad, either ;-) Thanks, Deb.
karenquiltz asked:
You're the first to post something with pearls and swirls. I love the look. This piece is inspirational. A simple design with wonderful dimensions and filler quilting. Love it.
mckennalinn answered:
I'm always looking for interesting new freemotion background designs, and Cindy's sample was so pretty I had to try it. Earlier this year I had a quilt top with alternating muslin squares, and challenged myself to use a new-to-me freemotion design to fill each of them. I highly recommend that sort of exercise!
Sherri Rene asked:
beautiful, I definately want to learn to do this, thanks for sharing
mckennalinn answered:
I never aspired to do whole-cloth quilting, but Cindy is such an inspiring and down-to-earth teacher, I tried it. And I like it! Just go for it :-)
