Farm to Table Mini Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? A friend had been looking for a sign for her kitchen that included "Farm to Table" - so I made this mini quilted wall hanging. It is 13" wide and 11" tall. I like the way it turned out. I am not too proud of the binding - it's a tad wonky - need to get better at that!! What advice would you give someone starting this project? I found the center image online and contacted the organization that posted it. I could not find the original source but did not sell this image. It should not be sold. I did not have a full plan when I started with the image - to me, the fun is making decisions as I go. Have fun!

What you will need

  • Standard quilting materials
  • digital image
  • fabric transfer
  • old cotton sack for back fabric

Q&A with Marie Withrow

mickeyvixen asked:
I am just beginning to sew more. I have been sew for years off and on not enough to make perfect items. Plus I don't have much money to buy the kits and much material at a time it takes me a year or more to make something, but I do like the projects Marie makes.
Marie Withrow answered:
Thank you! I did not sew for many years either! When my boys were growing up I just did not make the time. My sewing only involved a button here and there and some mending. I had learned to sew in H.S. when everyone took Home Economics - a great course! But in 2008 I retired from the nonprofit where I had worked for 32 years and purchased a new sewing machine. It's not a "high end" machine but has been just great for learning new things. There are so many free tutorials on YouTube that it's easy to find things to make. I buy most of my material at JoAnn Fabrics using coupons and always look for sales. You can also find nice fabrics and great deals at local thrift stores. Just look for things you love and you'll find that you will end up using them to make things. Good luck!
