Double Wedding Ring Quilt

Project Description

What was your source for this quilting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Nancy Ferguson at McCalls Quilting Link to website or photo www.mccallsquilting.com/patterns/details.html?idx=6913&idx=6913&sid=500875238783d79b Tell us more about what inspired you. It has 11 segments in each arc! What are you most proud of? The detail. Instead of machine stitching diamonds as the pattern suggests, I drew my own 'leaf/vine' design with air-erasable pen and hand sewed each section differently. What advice would you give someone starting this project? It takes time. Make sure you sew keep seam allowance as exact as you can. DON'T use stretchy fabrics or be careful cutting on the bias - the small pieces loose shape and move easily. TIP - (I was told too late for this project) - Spray patches with starch after cutting to help retain their shape.Above all - have fun, you can un-do any mistakes.

Q&A with 999Graffix

Deena asked:
very nicely done. I've always wanted to make one of these quilts - but know I do not have the patience. I like to have fun when I quilt and I am afraid I would not with such an intricate and demanding quilt. Great Work - thanks for sharing!
999Graffix answered:
Oh, don't be afraid of it. It looks more difficult than it actually is. I cut and sorted all the 'arc' pieces and stitched them when travelling or relaxing. The pieces are small so if you make a mistake it's not expensive to replace. This was my first quilt, so give it a go, you'll surprise yourself.
Fabrikqueen asked:
Very nice...I have always wanted to make one, just afraid to try! Can't believe you say it is so easy...seriously?
999Graffix answered:
Seriously! This was my first quilt and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Go for it, you'll be glad you did.
Witney asked:
My daughter is getting married next year and I can't wait to begin this quilt, to give her as a wedding gift. Wish me luck... and happy stitching!
999Graffix answered:
The very best of luck! Don't forget to enjoy it.
Cookiemaker asked:
I began a double-wedding ring in blue & white 4 years ago and finally put it away for other projects. Thanks for the inspiration to bring it to the top of the pile and get it finished! :)
999Graffix answered:
Get it out! Blue and whit are beautiful colours on a quilt! Go for it and post pics for us to drool over.
NurseRaylene asked:
this is really nice, want to do one for my youngest daughter, but unsure of how long one would take
999Graffix answered:
It took me 9 months, but I was very depressed at the time so never let it down for a few months (day and night)
