Don's star

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Actually, the star was made to use up some OOPS! blocks. I pieced them incorrectly for the diagram I was working off of, and made a star. Originally, there was supposed to be another ring interlocking with the larger ring. I trimmed the block that was a mistake before really checking, and it was wrong. BUT it made the star points, so I ran with it. I also altered the size of the final project. I started working with 2 1/2 inch blocks instead of the 4 1/2 inch blocks because I wanted to use up some of my smaller scraps. I also altered the layout and used a 8x12 grid instead of 9x11. The finished project is 16x24. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Even mistakes can be redeemed. It's sometimes hard to break out of the rules, but it's really liberating to just go with it.

wordygirl asked:
There is just so much to love--and admire about this quilt! The way your larger ring extends off the "page" really adds energy to it, I think. Like everyone else, I am so taken with the addition of the star, and I like that you used different sized intersecting rings. I learn so much from seeing how other people break away from the original idea. I'm a pretty rigid person, so this helps me stretch. Thanks for the inspiration.

Aw, shucks! I also tend to be pretty rigid, so this was definitely stretching for me too. It's very cool to have so much positive feedback!
