Project Description

What are you most proud of? Inspired by the visual colour lesson by Joen, I hand dyed all the fabric for this quilt. I dyed about 22 tints of blue and 20 of sand. I used a dark and medium blue dye and dark and medium brown plus a small amount of yellow to warm things up a bit. This system works for me as I could never afford to buy all the fabric or manage to find all the subtle colour differences which I wanted to use. I used a 2 euro sheet from ikea which was sufficient for the entire quilt (it's not pure cotton or great quality but as it's a wall hanging that is fine). I'm very pleased with the end result. It's quiet and soft on the eye. Perfect for my bedroom. What advice would you give someone starting this project? If you like this style of art quilt and are willing to dye your own fabric, it's an extremely cheap method of working. You can afford to experiment without the fear of wasting expensive fabric. And it's fun!

Thanks Joen. I have learnt so much from your class. It has really given me the confidence to explore colour much more.
