Dogs I Have Known

What you will need

  • My brother & SIL brought me a panel that they bought in Switzerland last year - cutest dogs ever! I decided to add names of dogs I have known. There is still some space for future dogs. I quilted it with Isacord white thread and my first venture with polyester batting - not sure about the batting - spray basting doesn't stick as well with the polyester as it does on cotton batting.

Q&A with Darns

desna asked:
Oh Darns this is so so cute and such a cool idea to name each dog in memory of your own dogs. LOVE the fabric:)
Darns answered:
Thanks, Desna! This brought back a lot of memories of dearly loved departed dogs starting with my childhood dog, Butch. How he loved to escape from the yard & go visit my grandmother.
Domestic Strata asked:
Love this quilt!
Darns answered:
Thank you! Dogs rule!
Surfside6 asked:
Darns, you've done it again. Just toooooo cute. Love the panel. Nice family that kept you in mind on their trip.
Darns answered:
Thanks, Surfside6! Actually, this was a gift for taking care of their dog, Daphne, while they were gone. I told them to buy me a meter of some kind of fabric when they asked what I would like.
Surfside6 asked:
I always use cotton for batting, just a traditionalist I guess. Not crazy about polyester. Have you ever tried bamboo?
Darns answered:
I don't think I'll use polyester again. I have always used cotton also. I tried a bamboo blend but seemed to have a lot of bearding with it. I'm currently using wool batting for the first time on one of my finishes (2014 goal - finish some of the tops in the closet!). It's poofier than cotton for sure. And feels softer too.
