Denim Worlds

Project Description

What was your inspiration? My husband wanted a jean quilt.. So I went to a local thrift shop.. and as many jeans as I could stuff into two baskets..(which was 21 pair) I paid a total of $15.00 cdn.. there were no two pair of jeans the same.. I started by de-seaming the jeans , then cut them into 3" strips..and starting with the central block just sewed around till it was over the 12" size.. cut them true and then sewed them together.. the backing is a minky type of blanket.. very warm.. I also sewed the pieces on an old sheet cut into 13" squares.. I feel that it makes the squares more stable as some of the denim is stretchy..

3patch asked:
It is interesting idea. I love recycling, too. How big is the quilt at the end? Is it too heavy because denim has not the same weight as the cotton fabrics. I am dreaming about denim quilt, but still postpone frightening of the big weight of the finished quilt.

this one is a queen size.. it is sewn onto a fleece (minky) blanket.. giving it warmth but not a lot of weight.. .. it is in my holiday trailer.. and it is so very warm.. and it is not as heavy as you may think.. it was so easy to make.. there is no fill or batting in it .. because the fleece blanket it did not need it ..
