Dad's Family Quilt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I decided to put pictures in white blocks and wound up not just using one photo per block but putting 3 to 6 photos into PowerPoint and printing each PowerPoint page to a fusible fabric. After fusing each set of photos, I used my sewing machine to applique the photos so it looks like each one was put on separately. The look on Dad's face when he opened it was priceless! What advice would you give someone starting this project? It takes the longest time to choose the photos, set them up and print them. This project needs lots of time to put together.

What you will need

  • Cotton fabrics
  • thread
  • Quick Fuse iron-on ink jet fabric sheets
  • family photos
  • batting

Q&A with Nana Jo 54

joyce529 asked:
I have been thinking of doing a family quilt, but never thought to group the way you did. Thank you for the inspiration.
Nana Jo 54 answered:
You are welcome! It took longer to get the photo layout than to make the quilt.
juhill21555323 asked:
Love the quilt and how you incorporated the pictures. I want to make a similar quilt for my grandparents. Can you share with me how much fabric you needed of each color?
Nana Jo 54 answered:
I didn't keep track of it. I picked out the border fabric first and chose coordinating fabrics. I can't remember how much I bought. It fits a double bed as a bedspread.
