Colour exploration

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Re-discovering the fabric in my stash which I've been building for the past 20 years. What advice would you give someone starting this project? If you want to understand more about colour and feel confident about using colour in your quilts, then this is a great way to learn. I have spent hours just gazing and challenging myself to find examples of colour interactions, and absorbing it all.

Q&A with tobyfor

Sleepingdogs asked:
Wow! You have a swatch of all the fabrics in your stash? That's amazing. Well done!
tobyfor answered:
I do and I'm feeling good about it. I couldn't see why I kept on buying more fabric without being familiar with what was already there. It's turned into a great exercise and I've learned a lot about colours/scale/value as a result.
fewofakind asked:
Fantastic. Was it easy or hard to arrange?
tobyfor answered:
Sorting into values and colours was really the best part. It challenges you to decide how yellow or how blue that swatch of green is. You can discover the answer by comparing the swatch to a green that you know is more yellow and one that is more blue. The true character of your swatch is revealed.
