Christmas Wrap Tree Skirt 2013

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Combining vintage and modern fabrics. Successfully using Ann's technique for spray basting - could not have done this on my domestic machine without it! The center square is bound. It came out extra large as designed. What advice would you give someone starting this project? This would be a perfect project for jelly roll strips. After joining 5 strips I cut them to size for the panels. You can also change the design a number of ways. Let your creativity go!

What you will need

  • Vintage and Modern Cotton fabrics
  • poly-cotton thread
  • cotton batting
  • basting spray.

Q&A with NanaJeanFL

Pam NZ asked:
So snazzy! Go Jean!
NanaJeanFL answered:
Thanks Pam!
Ann Petersen asked:
It did turn out so well! Just a lovely bright and modern and fun tree skirt! Good job!
NanaJeanFL answered:
Thanks so much Ann! I've done very little actual quilting and was intimidated as this is almost 60" square. The spray basting worked wonderfully. Ditching from the outside in did too. This year my goal is to learn more quilting than SITD and 1/4" away from the seams. I'm looking forward to more of your teaching!
desna asked:
This is so cool Jean such a fun project.... this is on my list for next year... a tree skirt. Fabulous bright colours too. Happy new year Jean.
NanaJeanFL answered:
Thanks Desna! I'm going to have to make one of these for myself now. This project really gave me confidence that I can do big projects on my domestic machine :D
Darns asked:
Happy New Year, Jean! Both of these Christmas projects are so festive & colorful! You did a great job combining the vintage & the modern. PS Spray basting is the best - that's all I do now after taking Ann's class.
NanaJeanFL answered:
Thanks Darns! I agree, I doubt I'll even baste any other way :D
Beth245 asked:
This is gorgeous Jean - all the tree skirts I have seen are round - like the fact that yours is different and the colours perfect for Christmas - you home would have looked so pretty.
NanaJeanFL answered:
My daughter specified the square design and chose this layout among 4 trials. I like it as well and will most likely do a square one for myself too :D
