What are you most proud of? Creating the design myself. What advice would you give someone starting this project? The carpenter's star is created entirely with half square triangles (HST's) created from 10" s squares cut in half diagonally and sewn together to form the HST's. The outer points are formed my 10" squares in the corners and triangles (from the 10" squares) to form the mid-side outer points. I recommend that you draw it out so you know how many 10" squares you need of each fabric. When sewing the blocks together, leave the one seam open for the skirt slit. I used stitch in the ditch to quilt the skirt. Once the quilting was done I traced/cut around a bowl to form the center openning. I sewed ribbons (made from the binding fabric) into the both sides of the slit when binding to tie the skirt closed when under the tree.
