Christmas 2013 Runner

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Combining Vintage and Modern fabrics! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Measure and cut accurate. - especially if you use a triangle ruler. Make a couple of sample blocks and join them to see if everything is lining up straight and flat. Consider fusible fleece for more body. Using spray basting, set with an iron, helps keep things flat while quilting.

What you will need

  • Vintage and Modern cotton fabrics
  • fusible fleece
  • poly-cotton thread
  • basting spray. NOTE ABOUT THE PATTERN!!! My original source is no longer available. But you can purchase the pattern "Peppermint Twist" from Craftsy patterns. By Sharon Holland

Q&A with NanaJeanFL

Pam NZ asked:
Oh Jean, I love the first one of these you made, but oh my, this latest one definitely has more impact! Stunning on that beautiful long table too. Just WOW! Love the simplicity of your FMQ too... some times you just can't beat a straight line! Perfect for this, well done!
NanaJeanFL answered:
This one was definitely a labor of love. I lost count of how many fabrics I used making sample blades to determine the blocks that eventually made it in. Combining Vintage with Modern proved to be more a challenge than I expected. :D That said I'm very pleased with this one and so is my daughter! Now back to finish my 2nd 2013 BOM before the new one starts...
desna asked:
Oh I love both table runners but the new is so bright and colourful... I love how you fussy cut some of the fabric too. Perfect for Christmas.
NanaJeanFL answered:
Thanks Desna! You're right- there's a lot of fussing in this. Much of the vintage fabric has motifs with a lot of whlte between them. So I had to make adjustments. The more I look at it the more I like how it turned out. There were a lot of trial and errors - especially when I discovered my fancy 60 ruler cut segments too small to work and had to start over. You think I'd learn not on ly to make a practice block but to join a couple before proceeding. There are 108 of those white triangles! Live and learn :D
Beth245 asked:
Jean, just love your table runner - so bright and cheery and what a wonderfully long table - like both runners - bet you got lots of positive comments at Christmas.
NanaJeanFL answered:
Thanks Beth! My daughter really likes the vintage and modern fabrics together :D
klh asked:
Kudos to you, Jean, for you patience - all those white triangles! The end result is quite stunning!
NanaJeanFL answered:
Thank you klh :D As for the white triangles... I have a lot of leftover blades to do something with!
Ladybev asked:
Very very nice! Maybe next Christmas I'll make one too. I have a long table like yours that would look terrific too with this addition!
NanaJeanFL answered:
I can't wait to see it Ladybev. I'm sure yours will be a stunner!
