Ceramic Christmas Tree Skirt

Project Description

What are you most proud of? How the inside points of the dresden plate match up to the points on the base of the tree. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Its a simple project, i used a 5 inch square and cut the dresden wedge using the 8 inch mark on the ruler at the top of the square and the 3 inch mark was at the bottom of the square. then just sew the wedge at the bottom instead of at the top which is typical for a dresden plate. sew all the wedges together to form the plate. cut a 19 inch circle out of fleece and layer with the dresden plate right sides together. then sew the entire outer circle seam. turn the dresden plate right side out and iron the piece so that the points lay flat on the front. then sew all the points in place on top of the fleece with a 1/8 top stitch seam. i did not use any batting in this piece.

What you will need

  • Cotton Charm Pack for the assorted fabric and a fleece backing. My mother in law made this ceramic tree about 35 years ago and i decided to make a matching skirt for it. its 18 inches round and i used a dresden ruler except i made the wedge point on the inside instead of the outside edge. i thought it matched the base of the tree really well to have the points inside. the fleece backing also doubles as the center of the dresden plate.
