Project

Batik Disappearing Nine Patch

Project Description

What are you most proud of? This was my first full/queen sized quilt. It was also my first time using a long arm quilting machine, which I rented for a day. I think the colors are gorgeous, vivid, but warm and inviting. We used to live in W Africa, where my kids grew up. I wanted to make a quilt for my adult son to remind him of his time there. The colors of the batik were so beautiful and made up really well using the Disappearing Nine Patch pattern. He loves it, and it is a very masculine quilt. Thanks, Jenny. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Unless using pre-cuts, square up the nine-patch before cutting. It really helped mine quilt come together. Because I wanted it less structured (no sashing), it took me awhile to lay out all the pieces so the colors were well-mixed.

Debbie Kanavel answered:
It's actually a long arm quilt machine that I rented for the day. I wanted to learn how, plus use a computerized motif this time.
