At long last!

Project Description

What are you most proud of? its on point! I finally managed to do the border with the limited fabric I had available and a fat quarter I found. I'm disappointed I couldn't miter the border corner - its doable but I didn't have enough fabric. Maybe next time... What advice would you give someone starting this project? If you're stuck with a project take the time to ask yourself why. Brainstorm, discuss it with someone else. Look for a new perspective or another approach to get going again and finish it. I had given up with putting it on point (didn't know how) and had myself convinced I wouldn't be able to find more fabric for the border. Once I learned fusible webbing I realized I could put it on point - all I needed was border fabric. In the end I shopped again and found a fat quarter that worked!

What you will need

Q&A with NanaJeanFL

Pam NZ asked:
WOW Jean! What a marathon effort this one must have been, but oh so worth it! Well done you!
NanaJeanFL answered:
Thanks Pam. Seems like a lot of stuff I've done recently has tested my eye for detail. But you're right - its work the effort!
Darns asked:
This looks so good! Did you really unsew the star from the background fabric then fuse to new background piece! What a lot of work - Congrats on getting the look YOU wanted!
NanaJeanFL answered:
Well, yes Darns. I did frog stitch the star and fuse it on point. One of my original problems was not achieving a 1/4 inch seam outside those points. Even with a couple tries some of them were exactly on the edge! So I had to rip it out anyhoo. As always - thanks friend.
Odd Cat Stitch asked:
What a smart idea! I love how the pattern of the fabric gets smaller as you go from the center to the egde - makes the design pop a bit. I think I'm going to borrow your idea and do one similar for my block.
NanaJeanFL answered:
Thanks Odd Cat Stitch! I look forward to seeing your block :D
Queen Dragon asked:
Congratulations! That is such a pretty quilt, and I love the colours.
NanaJeanFL answered:
Thank you Queen Dragon :D
sherbear7 asked:
I commend your perservence! I still haven't finished mine. Part way thru I messed up cutting the diamonds and got so frustrated I stopped. You've encouraged me to get back to it. Your quilt is beautiful!
NanaJeanFL answered:
I hear you! I did the same thing. I reached a point where I was afraid to rip it out yet again. Thanks so much for your compliments!
