Project

Alaskan Memories

Project Description

What are you most proud of? Finding a way to represent our memories of Alaska (even though I never saw a dog sled). What advice would you give someone starting this project? Buy a pattern first. I made these blocks from scratch based on a vague memory of something I saw in a catalogue. The dog sled motif restricted the size of the blocks, and I had an awful time trying to make the diamonds fit into the spaces between the rows. I kept cutting and resewing them till they fit. Ditto the sashing. It all worked out, though, and it hangs in our family room next to the TV so we can be reminded of our honeymoon trip all the time (we married at ages 70 and 72).

Q&A with TerryChase

Surfside6 asked:
So beautiful. Love the colors
TerryChase answered:
Thank you. I hoped to give the feeling of Alaska even though I never saw a sled dog! I did buy the fabric there, though.
quilt-a-lot asked:
What a lovely story - and a beautiful reminder! We took our boys sledding in Quebec earlier this year and it will be a lifelong memory (especially for Australians...)
TerryChase answered:
Thank you. Will you quilt a reminder of the trip?
Candace in Fl asked:
What a spectacular quilt. My father always said Alaska was his dream trip, he and my mother RV'd and he said that that was the ultimate camping trip. He couldn't talk my mother into it, but I'm sure he'd have loved your quilt. It's beautiful.
