Q&A with Cathy Geier

Strib asked:
This quilt is inspiring. The perception of the mountains is exceptional. Any clues to your thought process to get this affect? Am new to quilting but know that landscapes are in my near future..
Cathy Geier answered:
In most landscapes, the depth is created by value. Deeper darker valued fabrics are placed in front of lighter values. So my foreground is dark... Since this quilt is made up of 2 inch squares of fabric, to create the mountains I simply kept darker gray fabrics toward the bottom and lighter gray to white toward the top... I was trying to give them a snowy look. Thanks for the compliments! Cathy
