Project Description

What was your source for this quilting project? Online Photo or Website Name of website or photo Project Pattern Link to website or photo KeepsakeQuilting.com What are you most proud of? Finishing it. I made one sixteenth of this quilt 10 years ago and put it away. To complete this quilt I did one row every night till it was finish. It took 3 months. It is like putting together a puzzle because you are matching your chosen colors above and below as you are making leaves. You also need lots of backgrounds and blue for the water running through it. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Do an entire line of work every day till you are finished. Packs of fabric in 1/8 are sold at Keepsake quilting to get you started. I took photos in the Fall in NYC to get the colors just right. Amazingly orange, purple, deep red and lime green were in those fall colors.

What you will need

  • paper piecing quilt fabrics -- I make every leaf in a different fabric so no two are the same. If I loved a swirl or pattern that was tone on tone in a fabric I bought other colors of it for this quilt.

Q&A with Merrypal

I think it is beautiful, I have been thinking of making a quilt that looked like leaves were scattered all over and here it is...
Merrypal answered:
Thank you all soo much!
L.K asked:
so pretty.... love it :)
Merrypal answered:
Your work is exceptional. Very very pretty!
Kkufa asked:
Very nice. Looks more complicated than a 3 though.
Merrypal answered:
Most are square pieces, the leaves that need a stem are the leaf color between two half square triangles.
MarySunshine asked:
I bought this kit years ago from Keepsake Quilting, and put it aside because of it's difficulty. I have more experience quilting now, and think I am up to the challenge. It is on my "to-do" list for 2012. Thanks for the inspiration. Your quilt is beautiful! One thing I am going to do before starting it, though, is to enlarge the pattern.
Merrypal answered:
I got the pattern laminated then I had it enlarged and cut it into fours and then I made the paper templates and put them in baggies with the # on it. It definitely pays to be organized.
sewing cindy asked:
