PATTERN DETAILS

Toddlers love stacking blocks. I remember those wooden blocks we had when I was young and that were painted with different colors on each face. That has inspired me a playmat. It consists of 3 diamonds in contrasting and cheerful colors joined together to form an hexagonal quilt. Each diamond represents a face to give the illusion of a cube. This pattern consists in an hexagonal quilt formed by 3 diamonds. Each one is assembled in a log cabin fashion (courthouse steps variation) alternating between solid color and coordinating print fabric strips. This is to accentuate the three-dimensionality. Then the diamonds are assembled together using a Y-seam. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Piecing skills SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 36" x 42"

Recommended with this pattern

  • Thread
  • Batting
  • Quilting cotton fabrics (see picture for fabric requirements)

I love sewing. I like expressing my creativity through fabrics and thread. I like designing projects of my own and one of my favorites are quilts. They become like a blank canvas where you use fabrics to create design elements. I come from an engineering field. I started sewing by doing home decor projects for my own. But, I got into sewing and quilting seriously when I became a mom at home and started sewing for my little ones about 5 years ago. At that point, I discovered all the modern prints and the online quilting community. Since then, I have published several sewing and quilting projects in different magazines and was contributor to two books. I'm the co-founder of the Montreal Modern Quilt Guild.
