This is a Blue House surrounded by Spring flowers starting to bloom. I had fun adding the flowers, but they are optional. The Blue House can be made with the appliqué method or the paper-piecing method. I stitched the appliques by hand, but this could be done with a sewing machine. Of course, those mug rug and coaster can entirely be done by hand or by machine. Your choice! You can see examples for both methods in the pictures (mug rug: appliqué; coaster: paper piecing). To make these items I used both new and old fabrics. They are cotton, except for the dark blue that is a polyester. The Blue House would also look great if made with only quilting cotton. The difficulty level is "advanced" because there are no step-by-step written instructions for sewing the appliques, paper piecing, piecing, quilting and binding. I have included in the patterns many pictures showing both methods. WARNING: the paper-piecing pattern has many steps and many tiny pieces. Also, for two steps, I did not use the paper to sew but only as a guide. I have included pictures to show these two steps and I have written explanations on how I managed them. These steps are a little tricky but can be done if you take your time. The mug rug measures 15 x 23 cm / 5 7/8" x 9". The coaster measures 13 cm / 5 1/8" square.
