Pattern Details

Looking for a project you can actually have done and gifted before Christmas as long as you start by December 20? For real, it can be done and you can be living the Suite Life! These "suite" little nutcracker guys started life as a mystery project culminating in the table runner version of this pattern. But I loved the block so much and saw a larger quilt with a more modern feel, and the cover quilt features that vision - the lap/wall sized version of nutcracker guys marching in tree formation. What could be cuter and more festive? Not much, if you ask me! What's the best part of this pattern? It's so hard to choose! First, either version can be made entirely of scraps if you like - in fact, my cover quilt blocks were cut totally from a Cherrywood Fabrics grab bag. But you like yardage? No problem! Supply list includes yardage and scrap equivalents. Second, it's easy enough for a confident beginner, but awesome looking enough to keep a more advanced quilter interested, and yes I'm using myself as the model on that statement. I literally kept saying as I put it together "THIS IS SO CUTE!" I hope you agree. Third, if you start by December 20 of any given year, you can definitely have the table runner version done for gift giving. It's that quick. And finally, the cover quilt is the first one I've created that all three of my daughters, including two teenagers, have exclaimed their love for and begged me never to give it away. That has to mean something! Pattern includes lap/wall (64" x 80"), table runner (23" x 45") and a surprise bonus project (you'll have to peek inside once you own it to find that one out), ensuring you'll use it again and again to make your holidays as "suite" as can be. Directions include quilting ideas and alternate border options. Don't love the blank faces? Spice them up with some ideas of your own. Use scraps or yardage or a combination. Each nutcracker the same or all different. It's all good when you are living the Suite Life!

I probably started sewing as a measure of self defense; if my mom was busy teaching me about 5/8" seams and casings for elastics, there was no way she could whip up yet another set of matching floor length gowns for my sister and I to wear while posing for photos at the local Sears photo studio. While my mom sewed all manner of things, quilts were never one of them. I discovered quilting on my own in 1995, and like most new quilters, my first can be considered a horrific monstrosity. Several years and much more talent later, I started to design my own patterns, and in 2005 launched EvaPaige Quilt Designs. My design style is one of "fun over fuss", and I unapologetically preach the gospel of "Perfection is Overrated" through my trunk show and on my Quilting Hottie Haven blog. Quilting isn't mean to be hard or frustrating, and with every pattern I try to help the user focus on enjoying the creative process rather than becoming annoyed by too many matching points and seams. I tend to shy away from trends; I design what I love and have a hard time conforming to what's hot in the quilting world. Other than me, of course. On a more personal note, my husband and I have three young daughters, twins Eva and Paige, my mini-mes and company namesakes, and Greta, who will likely be in therapy because her name only appears on a pattern, not as part of the true EPQD empire. We live in a pretty town northwest of Boston MA that I promise you have never heard of and where you don't even need a clear day to see New Hampshire, where all five of us pretty much live our lives covered in thread scraps.
