Pattern Details

I named this quilt pattern "Kaboom" because the colors, flowers and stripes explode all over the quilt. The fabric I chose was from Alexander Henry's "Fulham Road" line, but the most exciting modern designers all carry exploding fabric patterns with complementary stripes. This pattern maximizes the impact of the beautiful prints while at the same time elegantly economizes the time and effort needed to achieve the amazing results. In other words, a beginner quilter can make this quilt in a day. "Kaboom" is a quilt as you go project. That means that you assemble all the quilt layers in sections, quilt each section and then sew the sections together. The entire quilt is finished in about the same amount of time it takes just to make a traditional quilt top. To make it even faster and give a frilly edge to the quilt, there is no binding, just a clipped edge. To give added texture to the quilt, the seams are sewn inside out and clipped to give a chenille style edge to the inside seams. The seams are designed to fray to the stitches, giving a relaxed, unaffected look to the quilt. Every step in this quilt was planned to create the most beautiful quilt possible in the most efficient way possible. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY You should already know how to use a sewing machine SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Completed size of quilt: approximately 54x 62 inches (137cmx158cm), large throw size

Recommended with this pattern

  • 1 yard (.91 m) bold print fabric for front center panel (I used "Sloane" in tawny plum by Alexander Henry in the Fulham Road series)
  • 1 1/2 yard (1.37 m) complementary stripe print fabric for wide borders (I used "St. James Stripe" in tawny plum by Alexander Henry in the Fulham Road series)
  • 2 yards (1.83m) flannel fabric for center panel back and batting (I used a plum colorthis fabric will show on the front at the clipped seams, so choose a color that goes well)
