Two variations of the Maple Leaf design are included in this paper pieced quilt block pattern: one is more naturalistic, and the second is more graphic or stylized. The green version is, I think, a more accurate representation of a "real" leaf. In the second variation, however, that large diagonal piece adds a strong graphic element to the leafy "stars" quilt variation. Use the coloring page provided to try out colors on both variations to see which works best for your quilt project. On its own, a single paper pieced Maple Leaf block is a beautiful natural motif. Combine multiple Maple Leaf blocks, and the real magic begins -- so many possibilities of pattern and movement. A few are shown in the images at right. The Maple Leaf quilt block pattern for paper piecing contains clearly annotated foundation pattern units & easy-to-follow directions for sewing the two variations in a range of sizes. The pattern pieces as printed normally make a 6" (15.24 cm) block; for other sizes, the handy resizing table shows the percentages necessary to enlarge or reduce the pattern to a range of common quilt block sizes. I happily provide email support for questions with sewing the block pattern - contact me via my website, piecebynumber.com. Basic paper piecing knowledge is needed. Pattern is for personal use only.
