PATTERN DETAILS

I'm kind of unnaturally addicted to Art Gallery fabrics. When I see them, I must have them. It matters not if I have a plan, they must be mine immediately. Such was the case with this set of fabrics, which languished on my cutting table for a few weeks before inspiring me to throw them together into the design you see before you. It was the fact that I kept coming back to "floral explosion," but wanted something slightly classier, that led to the name "Ka-Bloom!" I'm not ashamed to admit that I may have yelled "Ka-Bloom!" more than once as I pieced the top. It only seemed fitting. This pattern allowed me to get back to my roots in pattern design, which is to say it combines machine applique and slightly funky (but easily done) piecing to create a surprisingly awesome quilt. Not that I am biased. The on-point setting is somewhat new for me, but no one ever accused me of putting myself in a designing box. The machine applique portion is as easy as it can get, with smooth curves and a simple, classic design. The pattern uses 8 print fabrics along with a solid or tone on tone background. Fabric amounts are generous and include the scrappy binding. While it is Leaves Galore TM compatible, applique templates of the petals are also included. Should you be inspired to explode some fabrics and inclined to purchase this pattern, and maybe even make the quilt eventually, I would love to see a photo of your finished result! I probably started sewing as a measure of self defense; if my mom was busy teaching me about 5/8" seams and casings for elastics, there was no way she could whip up yet another set of matching floor length gowns for my sister and I to wear while posing for photos at the local Sears photo studio. While my mom sewed all manner of things, quilts were never one of them. I discovered quilting on my own in 1995, and like most new quilters, my first can be considered a horrific monstrosity. Several years and much more talent later, I started to design my own patterns, and in 2005 launched EvaPaige Quilt Designs. My design style is one of "fun over fuss", and I unapologetically preach the gospel of "Perfection is Overrated" through my trunk show and on my Quilting Hottie Haven blog. Quilting isn't mean to be hard or frustrating, and with every pattern I try to help the user focus on enjoying the creative process rather than becoming annoyed by too many matching points and seams. I tend to shy away from trends; I design what I love and have a hard time conforming to what's hot in the quilting world. Other than me, of course. On a more personal note, my husband and I have three young daughters, twins Eva and Paige, my mini-mes and company namesakes, and Greta, who will likely be in therapy because her name only appears on a pattern, not as part of the true EPQD empire. We live in a pretty town northwest of Boston MA that I promise you have never heard of and where you don't even need a clear day to see New Hampshire, where all five of us pretty much live our lives covered in thread scraps.
