Sometimes only hand-stitching will do. This could be because you are out-and-about or maybe you want to sit in the sun and slow down a little. And I have just the mug rug pattern for such times. The Hexden Flower mug rug pattern uses English paper-piecing to create a functional mini quilt for your desk or table. The finished mug rug provides ample room for your coffee cup and cookie. It also makes an ideal gift for a friend or relative whether for Mother's Day, a birthday or to say 'thank you'. This pattern uses hexagons and Hexden petals to create a wonderful, hand-stitched mug rug. As such it is suitable for the beginner or experienced English paper-piecer. The pattern, like all Patchsmith patterns, comes with easy-to-follow instructions and full size templates. NOTE: This pattern does not include specific instructions for how to English paper-piece but if you click on the link 'Read blog or news article about this pattern' you will find recommendations for learning this method. And this pattern is economical as well - use whatever fabrics or scraps you have to hand. You have a choice of sidebar - one made entirely from English paper-pieced hexagons and the other using just three hexagons. Whichever fabric or sidebar you choose, join with the Patchsmith and add a touch of hand-stitched coziness to your home today. This pattern is for personal use but permission is also granted to make this item to sell provided the item is handmade by you and you credit the Patchsmith for the design. No mass production allowed. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Basic English paper-piecing SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 9.5" x 6.5" (before quilting)

I am the Patchsmith. I patch, applique, sew and quilt. I have been creating a life of fabric, fun and friends for many, many years. I believe a pattern should be easy to follow, with clear diagrams and full-size templates. Value is also very important to me - both in terms of fabric wastage and to the buyer. Patchwork is about sharing and that is why all my patterns are priced for everybody to afford. To contact me visit my blog ( and click on 'About the Patchsmith' or email me at
