Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: I used Maderia cake for the skirt, buttercream icing to go over the cakes, fondant icing for the green skirt and piping, and used sugar paste for the flowers. What are you most proud of? I'm very happy with the roses that I made that go around the base of the skirt - I'm new to flower modelling so very proud of these.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? I would get all the cakes baked the evening before you start the modelling and decorating as you do need the cakes to be completely cool before shaping/cutting - just saves any waiting around. Also, just make sure you know what width you want the bottom of the skirt to be so you know what size base cake you need to bake. I made a chocolate sponge cake on the bottom as this is what was served at the party. The maderia cake was sat on a foil card and supported by using 3 pop sticks in the sponge on which the foil card then sat. I would also recommend getting the roses pre-made a day or two before so there is less pressure on the day to get it all done as these can take a while, especially if you are new to them like me. When putting the doll into the cake I made a small hole in the top of the Maderia cake and then just forced her through the rest of the cake. The reason for doing this is that she needed to be really secure. I did hit a slight problem as the dolls feet poked out of the bottom of the skirt cake, so I had to cut into the foil board that was to hold the weight of the skirt cake so that her feet could be put into the cake beneath! All in all though I found this cake challenging, but fun :)
