What advice would you give someone starting this project? Definitely use the graph type layout to do the drawing in watercolor pencil

This is a good start! The color and light is starting to have a nice warm quality to it. The proportions are a little off though with the head being a bit large for the body (mostly in the amount of hair), and with the hand being a bit small.

I have deleted some of the hair as it was more than what the photo depicts,it is now true to the photo. I have also added more over glaze, thus the improved colors
