What are you most proud of? I was so impressed with the results! It was incredibly easy to apply this type of binding, all in a small amount of time. I was also happy to dispense with the pattern instructions which directed me to sew one shoulder seam, apply the neckline binding, and then sew the other shoulder seam. The final top itself is ok. It was largely a practice piece. I'm not terribly thrilled with the color combination. The pattern needs tweaking; I have to add at least another two inches in length, and the side seam length on the pattern did not match. I added a few extra photos of the completed top. As you can see, I tried to add about another 1 1/2 inches to the bottom through a contrasting band to compensate.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? I would recommend diving right in. I made a few mistakes, like not using binding that was stretchy enough and not sewing the same width, but I was able to fix it and move on. Next time, I will write down the seam allowances so the neck and arm binding width are the same. Also, I preferred to mark the quarters on the binding with pins but clip the markings on the neckline/armscye. This way, when I match the quarter marks, I already have a pin available to pin them together.

Your top looks great, I did a second look , I hadn't noticed the widths were not the same on the binding. Your sewing looks 1st class. Thanks for posting.

Thank you! I added a closeup of the binding. The use of a walking foot really helped here!

How did the top fit you? It looks great to me.

Thank you! Except for the length, the top fits well. I added a band of ribbing to the bottom as a way to length the garment, but I"m not sure if looks all right. I"m optimistic that my second version will be better though!
