I'll give you the short version of the very complicated long story on the whys and wherefores of the backing for the Piece of Cake quilt. The Ninjas have a significance for the boys at my school, where the quilt is to be raffled. They are extremely cute little characters cut from a Robert Kaufman panel. I tried to make them look like they were jumping up and down in excitement. The quilting - which shows up better in this photo, I think - is just parallel rows of two stitches built in to my Husqvarna Ruby sewing machine. They are serpentine stitches which I deliberately altered the length and width as I went so no row would be identical to its neighbour. The rows are approximately 3/4" apart. I have to thank some unknown person for this quilting idea. I saw it online somewhere, could have sworn I bookmarked the page but have been unable to find it since. I feel bad that I cannot attribute this idea to its creator - so if it is a fellow Craftsy quilter - sorry, and many many thanks. The quilting was easy, looks fabulous and was perfect for this quilt.
