What advice would you give someone starting this project? Start with a small project. Use the natural or ecru color monks cloth for the first time, the white can be bothersome to the eyes. Pre-shrink, make sure you sew all around the ends, then wash and dry before you start weaving. Variegated yarns looks wonderful!

I've done the towels using her patterns, but I have trouble getting the monk's cloth to work the same. What's the trick?

Amanda, I am not sure what your referring to. After pre washing and drying, i find center in both directions. I then run a thin piece of dark yarn or thread in both directions.(at centers) I then work right to left of center first. Can you be more specific with your issue?

Also, how did you get the colored edges?

I used the variegated yarn from the project, and did a blanket stitch.

My fabric always seemed to un weave itself as I worked. I think the pre-washing might be the secret. Do you have to finish the edges first? And is the nun-stitch different for monk's cloth than the towel material? I tried the nun-stitch I know and it seemed to really bunch up the fabric more than it did on the towels. Thanks so much for helping me. You're work is lovely.

Amanda, i am not getting timely updates on our conversation here. could we continue this thru email? strut526 at gmail.com you must use a sewing machine and sew around all the edges before washing and drying. if your stitches are bunching up, your pulling the yarn to tight.
