What materials did you use? Fabric purchased on eBay, Mettler purple cotton thread for machine applique

What are you most proud of? It actually lies flat (more or less).

What advice would you give someone starting this project? If you're going to machine embroider, use the same thread for the bobbin. I was too lazy to wind a new bobbin, and the grey bobbin thread shows on the top.

Was nice to see someone else was thinking along the same lines as myself. I too was thinking all different colors for the fan. Looks nice.

I had bought a fat quarter bundle on eBay of 40 different green fabrics, so I figured I might as well go this route.

This one really caught my eye. It's so very PRETTY!

What is fussy cut and are the appliqus done o ER the pieced fans? Sorta newer to some verbiage. What is BOM lol I think I know duhhh:))) Thx Francesca

No problem, Francesca. Fussy cut is just when you have a "picture" (such as a flower, animal, scenery) in your fabric that you want to isolate and use just that part in your quilt block. In this particular block, the flower in the centre was my "fussy cut.' It came from a fabric that has a large floral pattern that wouldn't work well for any of the smaller pieces.

BOM = Block of the Month. That is a course or club that you join to learn a new block each month. It's a good way to learn new blocks and techniques. The final quilt is a sampler quilt that is made up of all different blocks, which is unlike your traditional quilt where all of the blocks are the same pattern.

The fans are all pieced (this block is actually composed of 4 fan blocks joined together to form a circle) with the centre circle (the flower) being the appliqued part. The circle segments don't actually come to a point in behind this centre circle. There is only about a quarter inch of fabric overlap. The fan was assembled in pieces, not appliqued to a background.

If your bobbin thread shows on top, try altering the tensions, that may help.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep that in mind for next time.
