What materials did you use? I used black Isacord thread to do the outlining and quilting, fusible fleece for the batting, and a solid lime green cotton for the background. I satin stitched the edge using the Isacord and a Creative Feet Satin Stitching foot. The top is coated in textile medium to protect it.

What are you most proud of? That a piece of art was created between two generations... and love of art has been passed down.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? I used the textile medium on the colored sections on this piece, but after it dried those sections were a different color. It was too noticeable so I decided to just put textile medium over the entire piece. Everything came out the same color, but a couple of different things happened. First on a positive note... the piece lays completely flat and is a bit on the stiff side, which is great since the piece is kind of large. Secondly, a piece of loose thread that I had not trimmed on the eye had curled across the eye and became stiff so I couldn't easily cut it off, but since it is laying across the eye it now looks like the pirate has a scar which is really cool. I wanted to sew metal buttons, glass beads, and pearl strings across the bottom sections to make it look like he was standing among treasures and one in his hat, but I should have done that BEFORE I put the textile medium on. It still looks nice though. I stitched a key ring on the back for easy hanging.
