Tell us more about what inspired you. My friend wanted a cake to suprise her husband on his 50th birthday, so I offered to have a go at making one for him. I know he loves chocolate cake and playing card games and when I told her my idea she loved it and thankfully it turned out just as I had imagined it would :)

Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: I made up my favorite chocolate sponge recipe and baked it in a smallish roasting dish. I wanted 3 layers of sponge so had to do this 3 times. I drew a template on grease proof paper to make sure each layer of sponge was the right size and cut the sponges then layered them up with chocolate butter cream, I then crumb coated the entire cake in the same chocolate butter cream and put it in the fridge to chill for a while before covering it with fondant. The dice were made using cut off's left over from the cake and were covered in the same way. Then I cut out the number 8 (my friends husbands lucky number) the hearts and cut out the spade and diamond out of fondant I had colored and stuck them on with a little water. The poker chips were made from fondant and I used a circle cutter to get the shape and finished them by writing the values on each one using an edible pen.
