What was your source for this recipe?
Tell us more about what inspired you. I have been making novelty and celebration cakes for a couple of years. Earlier this year I was asked to make a Canon 1000D. It ended up twice actual size which was huge and unnecessary. But it was a big success and I was asked to make the 5D later in the year. I love working on detail and was determined to make this cake look as real as possible!
Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: Started out with a rectangular madeira cake, double torted, sugar-syruped and filled with vanilla buttercream icing. The cake was then carved using a number of images of different angles of the camera, sized, printed and cut out to help with the carving. The carved cake was then crumb-coated, cooled, then covered with sugarpaste/fondant icing. The details were then added using a combination of sugarpaste and gumpaste icing. The lettering was hand-painted on using edible colouring - this took ages! ***There are 35 photos of this cake in an album on my facebook page but the file sizes are too large to load up to this site.
