Trend Spotting: Cork!

Seems like every time we go to the wine store, more and more bottles have screw-tops. Yet, everywhere else, all we see is more and more cork! And that’s kind of a relief, because even though screw-tops are a little easier,  there’s something special about cork, and we’d just hate to see it go by the wayside. Thanks to crafters, though, that doesn’t seem all that likely considering cork’s cropping up everywhere from home flooring to tableware.

Cork Trends in Sewing
Fine, so maybe using a type of wood for things that are made of wood isn’t that revolutionary after all. But, what about sewing? Now, that’s wild! On that note, we’d like to highlight these Bluprint sewists who have found some interesting ways to incorporate cork into their sewing projects:

Cork as a fabric—now we’ve seen it all! We love the contrast that this case provides. Seeing cork conjures feeling of soft wood, as opposed to the hard glass and aluminum of the iPhone.
If you haven’t noticed, there are a lot of great patterns out there (many of which are right here on Bluprint, ready for you to download). It makes sense, then, that you’d want to organize the patterns. But traditional files or folders or binders hide them. This corkboard organizes and displays!

[one_third_last]Cork coasters: a brilliant idea. They’re lightweight, absorbent, and the material itself is easy to work with. We love how this Bluprint crafter decorated the wood to make it even more pleasing to the eye.[/one_third_last]
