Quilted Holiday Decor: Free Christmas Quilt Patterns

As a young child, I learned to appreciate the tradition of decorating our family’s home for the holidays. Each year around this time, I eagerly anticipated the chance to look through a large, dusty box of Christmas ornaments and carefully-wrapped nativity characters. Today, I’m thankful that my parents have kept many of my childhood favorites, which I store in a smaller box of handmade and quilted holiday decor.

If you are looking to start your own collection of seasonal treasures, we hope you love this collection of free Christmas quilt patterns! Let this be the year that finally finds you quilting your ideal family stockings, holiday quilt or tree skirt. It’s sure to be treasured for years to come.

May your days be merry and bright! A modern, patchwork tree skirt was on Lee’s holiday sewing to-do list for several years, and she decided to write a pattern for her Diamond Christmas Tree Skirt, which she shares on her blog Freshly Pieced. In the tutorial, she references a half-square-rectangle tutorial to make the diamonds, and her scrappy assortment of red and green prints is perfectly offset by the bright white background fabric.

The great thing about quilted holiday decor is that you can modify virtually any quilt pattern to include Christmas colors like red, green, gold and silver. Cheryl used the popular and free Granny Square Quilt Block tutorial from Blue Elephant Stitches to whip up this pretty Christmas quilt. She used red and green fabrics from the Nature’s Christmas collection by Sandy Gervais for Moda and added a wide sashing and border in a cream print. A bias red-and-white plaid binding finished off the quilt.

What’s your favorite Christmas quilt pattern? Is your home decorated with quilted holiday decor?
