How to make music cupcakes fondant toppers step by step

Making a Heart Piano Fondant Topper

Step 1:

Use the fondant rolling pin and 1/8″ guide rings to roll out tan fondant on your work surface. Cut out a large heart shape with the cutter.

Step 2:

With the angled spatula, make an indentation lengthwise in the center of the heart. Then continue making additional linear indentations on both sides of the middle to create the piano keys.

If you have a linear embossing mat, you can use it in lieu of making the indentations over the fondant.

Step 3:

Roll out black fondant with the rolling pin and 1/8″ guide rings.

Step 4:

With the rolling pastry cutter, cut across the black fondant to create a straight line across the bottom of the black fondant.

Step 5:

Punch out the black fondant with the larger end of the heart cutter.

Step 6:

Form the black fondant over the top of the tan heart, making sure they are flush. When satisfied with the placement, glue it in place.

Step 7:

Roll out black fondant with the rolling pin and 1/8″ guide rings.

Step 8:

With the rolling pastry cutter, cut across the top and bottom edges of the black fondant to create a long strip, approximately 1/2″ wide.

Step 9:

With the large square cutter, cut out black keys out of the black fondant strip. I like to use the square cutter to make clean cuts that are not pulled by the rolling pastry cutter, but if you prefer to use the latter, or a precision knife, feel free! Make sure to pat the sides of each rectangular fondant shape get rid of any stray fondant pieces.

Step 10:

Place the keys over the tan piano keys in the desired order (make sure they are centered over one of the indentations) and glue them in place.

Roll a piece of tan fondant into a small ball.

Roll out the tan ball out to create a long, spaghetti-like shape.

Step 13:

Begin creating a musical note by rolling one end of the fondant into itself and coiling it a bit. Then, take the remainder of the fondant mold it into the musical shape desired. Then coil the other end to finish off the shape, cutting off any excess with the precision knife. Apply a bit of water/glue in the areas where the fondant pieces touch and allow it to dry enough to hold its shape.

Step 14:

Repeat the steps above to create different types of musical notes.

Step 15:

Brush the fondant musical notes with gold shimmer dust.

Step 16:

Apply water or glue to the back of the fondant musical notes and glue them to the top of the piano heart.
