Spaced Out Knits for World UFO Day

World UFO Day Knitting Patterns

To us knitters, UFO stands for Unfinished Objects, those evil projects lurking in our knitting bags and teasing us with their live stitches and unfinished seams.

But UFO also stands for something else that even non-knitters are familiar with. Have you ever spotted something strange in the sky? World UFO Day is July 2, and to celebrate we’re featuring all things outer space with knitted aliens, space ships, crop circles, and even space invaders.

Orbit the Outgoing Alien

Orbit might just be the pilot of one of the UFOs you’ve seen floating around. He makes an adorable stuffed toy for a little one, but he can also hang out on your bookshelf or desk.

Crop Circle Beanie

Those pesky UFOs are always leaving crop circles wherever they go, but sometimes those crop circles make beautiful designs like the one in this FREE beanie pattern. You’ll work from a chart using two-color stranded knitting to complete it.

Aliens in Space

These aliens are clearly not here to cause any trouble. Intarsia and duplicate stitch are used for the colorwork here. The sweater is sized for 1, 2, 3 or 4 years, so it’s perfect for space-loving toddlers. Note that the space motifs on the sweater are totally optional; you can choose to only knit the alien in the spaceship if you’d like.

Aliens from the Planet Flangelzwat

You’ll have just as much fun choosing eyes and limbs for these aliens as you will knitting them! Change up the styles and quantities to create an entire collection of fuzzy alien friends. Designer Lizzi says these aliens are “cultured and refined,” so you know they’d be a well-behaved addition to your family.

Baby Big Ears Alien Beanie Hat

Knit this hat up for your baby and just cross your fingers that the aliens don’t mistake baby for one of their own! This hat would be perfect for using up scraps, especially for the eyes and nose.
